Vegan Chocolate Cupcakes with Avocado Frosting

This is a delicious recipe and trust me you do not taste the avocado in the frosting at all.



Cupcake batter

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 bananas
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract



Preheat oven to 350F. Line a muffin pan with 12 paper or silicone cupcake liners.

Combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt in a medium bolw and set aside.

In a separate bowl, mash bananas with a fork, then add applesauce, almond milk and vanilla until well combined. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet to form a smooth batter.

Divide batter evenly between the 12 cupcakes. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool.

In a food processor add the avocado, cocoa powder, maple syrup and vanilla. Puree until smooth. Frost the cooled cupcakes and enjoy!
